An Evening With Pete Yorn - You & Me Acoustic

San Luis Obispo, CA 93401
Pete Yorn did not originally have aspirations of becoming a singer/songwriter; he started off as a drummer and converted to singing as a teenager. While drumming for his band during its high school battle of the bands competition, he was asked to sing a cover of "Talent Show" by The Replacements. The song went over well with listeners, who sensed a uniquely intimate quality in his voice, and soon Yorn was singing lead and impressing audiences with his average-guy-with-a-big-heart vocals. After striking out on his own and kicking around the music scene for a while, he managed to release his first solo LP musicforthemorningafter in 2001. The album managed to receive a respectable amount of attention and as Yorn continues to release characteristically pensive, modern, soft-rock material, his notoriety and fan base continue to grow.

Most people are unaware of how difficult it is for a playwright to create a magnum opus. Between inventing interesting characters, coming up with an engaging storyline and trying to interject some sense of humanistic moral into the piece, writers who consider themselves adept at penning plays often overburden themselves with ideas which frequently result in a rotten case of writers block. In an attempt to touch on the troubles that blight playwrights, American dramatist Ira Levin created a play called Deathtrap - which, in essence, is a play within a play. The story centers around an accomplished writer, who's having a difficult time writing his next piece, contemplating whether or not he should murder another writer, claim his work and call it his own. While this nefariously twisted plot line might deter some purehearted stage connoisseurs, Levin created this play to properly express just how perverted a writer's mind can become without proper inspiration.

Adapted from the popular 1968 children's film, this beloved story soars to new heights on stage. First produced in London's West End in 2002, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tells the story of eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts and his children. When wealthy Truly Scrumptious takes an interest in the family, Caractacus attempts to sell his new toy to her father in order to buy an old racecar for the children. The fixed up racecar becomes Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, a vehicle that takes them into an imaginary world as Caractucus weaves fantastical stories about the magical other world. This soaring, imaginative story is brought to vivid life onstage with rousing musical numbers.

Country legend Merle Haggard hardly needs an introduction, but for many fans of today's pop country hits, Haggard may fall outside of their normal radars. Haggard was instrumental in country's music's ascension to critical and commercial acclaim in the 1960s and throughout his career, he aided in putting a genre based on honesty and storytelling on the map before most anyone else. It may come as a surprise to many that Haggard grew up in California despite the genre's mostly Southern roots, but Haggard's raw, Fender Telecaster-driven take on sounds coming from Nashville set a precedent for a whole generation of innovative musicians.
