Dating back to about 65 million years ago, the Gilbert Hill is a natural marvel located in Andheri (West), Mumbai. The 60 meter (197 feet) hill is a monolith column of black basalt rock and is similar to the Devil’s Tower in Wyoming, USA. To preserve the structure, the local municipal corporation has marked the hill as a heritage site and has forbidden construction in the surrounding area. A Hindu temple dedicated to the local deity of Gaodevi Durgamata sits atop the hill, from where one can get a panoramic view of the city of Mumbai.
