    September 18, 2014 7:00 PM

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has brought circus arts and entertainment to audiences of all ages since 1907. Billed as "The Greatest Show on Earth," the company tours its spectacular productions across America by train, keeping the big-top circus tradition alive. Like any classic circus, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus shows feature a ringmaster, troupes of clowns, wild animals, acrobats and tight rope walkers as well as a variety of modern acts that the 100-plus-year-old institution has created to maintain a golden standard for circus entertainment in the US and the world.

    »Cymbals Eat Guitars

    September 18, 2014

Paying homage to the indie greats before them with every guitar riff and cymbal crash, band members of Cymbals Eat Guitars sound as though they belong to an era of straightforward indie rock that has since dissipated. Consistently compared to Modest Mouse, Built to Spill and Pavement, many have claimed the group is relying on influences and thus creating nothing new, but others have hailed the group as the second coming of classic indie rock, lauding them with hype and praise difficult to live up to. While the debate persists over whether or not this New York based quartet is living up to its reputation or not, Cymbals Eat Guitars continues to release hyped albums and sell out venues across the US.

Music Director David Lockington leads the orchestra each year in eight different concert series, all designed to stimulate the imagination. The symphony is known for interactive and lively performances infused with pop culture, making concerts of both classical and contemporary music accessible to all audiences. The Grand Rapids Symphony is deeply invested in community engagement and holds its annual concert, "Symphony with Soul," to feature both local and national African-American artists.
