    »Susan Winter

    September 21, 2014 7:00 PM

Susan Winter ~ A Woman for All Seasons Multi-award winning Susan Winter is a singers singer. She has been making a name for herself in the New York cabaret scene, but she has worked in and around New York clubs for many years. This native New Yorker has performed with her trio in intimate jazz spaces and has also sung with big bands, following the charts of the famous 30’s and 40’s singers. She was a regular at Catch a Rising Star and went on the road to work in many of the popular Catskill Mountain resorts and jazz clubs in surrounding states; but she took a hiatus to raise her two sons and work with special needs adolescents. And now, she’s back! Cabaret Hotline’s Carla Gordon says, “Susan has a luscious, smooth delivery, but also has a way with a lyric.” Her style may have been born in a bygone era but it is unmistakably contemporary. Susan’s vocal prowess has been compared to some of the Great American Songbook’s finest vocalists, but her approach is a unique blend of pop, jazz and cabaret.

    September 21, 2014 2:00 PM

Stage Left Studio presents "Be Careful! The Sharks Will Eat You!", bi-coastal stage actor Jay Alvarez's gripping solo show. This Best of Fringe winner at the Hollywood Fringe Festival and Best Solo Performance winner at the 2011 New York International Fringe Festival tells the story of the Alvarez family's escape from 1960s Cuba. Written and performed by Alvarez under the direction of Theresa Gambacorta, the comic yet touching story portrays the sultry beats of the Tropicana of the 1950s, the danger during Fulgencio Batista's fall and Fidel Castro's rise to power, the plight of children separated from their parents during the revolution, and the longing for a better life that propelled many Cubans to throw themselves, under the cover of moonless nights, into unknown and dangerous waters. This acclaimed show is equal parts family memoir and historical account of life in pre-revolutionary Cuba.
