This park features 42 acres of history and natural beauty.
The Orange Mill Historic District proudly boasts of having the only existing gunpowder mill in New York. Spread across an area of 200 acres (81 hectares), it is home to the Algonquin Park. The district has many 19th Century structures which display the Federal and Greek Revival styles of architecture. Due to its contribution to history, the district has been put up in the National Register of Historic Places.

Apart from having a high recreational value, the New Windsor Cantonment also has a rich past. This is that historic place where George Washington spent time during the Revolutionary War in 1782 and ended the eight year long War of Independence. Apart from the historic significance of the cantonment, it is today open to public for exploration and recreational activities. Group tours, interactive sessions and live history demonstrations are some of the activities that you can expect to do here. For the fun part, there are games and sports of the 18th century that you can try your hand at. The Walden United Methodist Church is a beautiful red colored structure built in 1893. Constructed with the Victorian Gothic style of architecture, it makes use of asphalt, brick, wood and stone. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008 and continues to function as an active congregation from the time of its inception. Services and other religious ceremonies are routinely held at the church to bring together the neighboring community.
Old Town Cemetery and Palatine Church Site was established by German migrants from the Palatinate region of Germany. It is situated on Glebe, a land granted by Queen Anne in1719. In 2000, the church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

From April 1782 to August 1783, General George Washington, commander in chief of the Continental Army, made his military headquarters and residence at the Hasbrouck family's fieldstone farmhouse in Newburgh. The house is the birthplace of the Badge of Military Merit, forerunner of the Purple Heart.
