Touted as Canada's largest light festival, this annual event combines incredible landscape lighting with live concerts, parades, fireworks, and a spectacular New Year's Eve celebration shown live around the world all with the Falls as a backdrop. The Floral Showhouse in Niagara Parks absolutely stuns this time of the year, when the chrysanthemums are out in full bloom. Over 50 types of orchids are on display as well, making this one of the prettiest events of the year! Check the website for additional information.
If the thunder of the Falls isn't enough to stir the soul, then this display of lighting legerdemain should definitely do the trick. Operating on the auspices of the Niagara Parks Commission, the nightly illumination features 21 xenon lights with 18 in the Illumination Tower near the Queen Victoria Park area, and three opposite the American Falls. How bright are these lights? One spotlight gives off 250 million candlepower! That's quite a step up from the first lights used in 1879 with an illuminating power of 32,000 candles.
Formed in Santa Barbara, California, Lagwagon is a punk rock/skate punk band that fed off the growing interest in punk rock and skateboarding in Southern California during the 1990s. The band recorded its album Duh, in four days before relasing the debut in 1992. After releasing its sophomore effort Trashed in 1994 while several punk bands were entering the mainstream, Lagwagon opted to stay with its independent label Fat Wreck Chords, turning down a number of major label deals. Following a short hiatus that lasted from 2000 to 2002, the band released two more albums before front man Joey Cape launched a solo career and Lagwagon was once again put on hold. Despite several line up changes, including the departure of its original bassist Jesse Buglione, Lagwagon has maintained its underground fanbase throughout its career. The band released a box-set of its first five albums and embarked on a world tour in 2011.
