This is one of the easiest courses you will find in the area. The fairways are flat with very few trees to block your shot, and the course itself is pretty short. This is a great place for beginners (or those who have played for years but still at the nascent stage). There is also a driving range and two putting greens. The fees are pretty nominal and there is a discount for seniors and juniors.
This gallery on the University of Oklahoma campus has become well known in art circles for its fine collections. The space is open and very minimalist; nice lighting and unobtrusive beige walls allow viewers to focus on the pieces and not on the environment. Four main collections are housed here: contemporary, the Oscar Jacobson American Indian Art Collection, the Oklahoma State Department collection, and the Santa Fe Indian School. There are also special exhibits held throughout the year to display traveling collections. Closed on Mondays.
The Orr Family Farm is an actual working farm that has a wide variety of attractions perfect for the whole family. Go on a thrilling zip-line ride, take a spin on the renovated antique carousel, try your luck by panning for "gold" in the mining slue, or find your way out of the 'Amaze'n Maze'. There are also a lot of other attractions like the petting zoo that are sure to entertain little tots. Here, the kids can cuddle with friendly animals at the barn or go on a pony ride. Get out and experience Oklahoma's beautiful weather at Earlywine Park. Families can spend the afternoon picnicking and playing on the playground. For sporting enthusiasts, a highly regarded golf course presents a welcome challenge. In addition, a tennis center and a soccer and softball field are located on the grounds. If you prefer solitary activities, suit up for a jog on the park's one-and-a-half mile trail. If exercise is not on your mind, just get comfortable and enjoy a southwestern sunset. Kids will enjoy the Earlywine pool and water park that are located inside the park as well.
This public golf course is actually two courses; one easy, one a little harder. There is a driving range and four putting greens on which to practice, as well as chipping and pitching facilities. Need to improve your game? Get a golf lesson from the pro while you are here. There is a snack shop and restaurant, but there is no bar on-site.
Brookside is not technically located in OKC, it is in Moore, but nonetheless it's a great course to learn how to swing from the pros. In addition to its status as a premier golf course, the instructors in the clubhouse can also teach younger golfers how to properly use mechanics in their stroke while out on the greens. There are plenty of courses throughout the OKC region, however this one allows golfers with high handicaps to mulligan over-and-over again without too much fuss. Enjoy the great outdoors at this 158 acre park. With walking trails, half basketball courts and picnic areas, this is the perfect place to spend the day. Children will love playing on the large playground with swings and a play area. The park is well-known for its soccer fields where the South Lakes Soccer Club hold games throughout the year. If you don't want to play a spot, just walk around and enjoy the scenery. Have a picnic by one of the two lakes and admire the waterfall next to the pedestrian bridge.
This ice rink located in South OKC is everyone's favorite place to cool down and learn how to skate. This place is for the entire family, where kids and adults alike can come and learn about figure skating, hockey and everything else there is to do on the ice. The ice center is open seven days a week and it can also be rented for your next event like a birthday party or corporate gathering, whatever the occasion you can rest assured that you will have some cool fun.
Part of a state park, this centrally-located lake is surrounded by tall oak trees. It is about an hour's drive from the city, just east of Norman. In addition to activities like boating, swimming and water skiing, Thunderbird has facilities for camping and picnicking. The lake is stocked with fish, predominately bass and catfish. The grounds have areas for archery and for hunting all kinds of game, including deer, rabbit and squirrel and several kinds of waterfowl.
Enjoy a day of old west adventure at this riding stable that offers open riding and guided trail rides on 30 professionally trained horses through 500 acres of historic land and hickory forest. Hay rides are also available. Reservations are required.
This south-side public golf course is a great place for beginners because it is not too challenging. There are only seven traps and four water hazards in 18 holes. You can practice on the putting green and chipping areas, and drive some balls at the driving range. Afterward, enjoy a beer in the snack bar.
