With a unique, often satirical, approach to penning rap lyrics, Ludacris made a reputation for himself as being one of the more unimposing figures in the mainstream hip-hop scene. Getting his start out of Atlanta, Georgia in 2000 with his debut LP Back For The First Time, the lively rapper quickly established himself as a witty lyricist who rhymes over prototypical Southern hip-hop beats.

Pioneers of the alt-country movement of the 90s, Old 97's is a band that was formed in Dallas, Texas by front man Rhett Miller in 1993. After touring the country in support of its debut album, the band was signed by Elektra Records, who hoped the band could start a new musical fad to follow the death of grunge. While the foursome did gain a respectable amount of success is and frequently cited by many modern musicians as a prominent influence, the band didn't gain the level of success Elektra had expected and the group was subsequently dropped from the label by the end of the 90s. The band has since gained a resurgence of fans and has been featured in multiple television shows, films and even video games.

Even though the Gainesville, Florida based nu-punk rock act Against Me! first started making music in 1997, it wasn't until 2007 that the band really rose to prominence. The band might receive a good amount of flack for sounding a bit too much like its pop punk peers, but the band's no-nonsense instrumental assault proves that the band is more than just a bunch of teenage whiners.

The definition of Orgone is "a universal life force;" it's also a Los Angeles-based collective that specializes in performing soul inspired by the time that many connoisseurs believe to be the genre's golden era: the 1960s and 1970s. Primarily instrumental, but occasionally including the sultry vocals of Fanny Franklin, the collective includes in its music elements from classic R&B, afrobeat and funk. The group usually performs as a 9-piece, but because of the members' connectivity to the soul music scene, Orgone's live performances can include a large cast of guest musicians on stage, making for a live show overflowing with creativity.
