Arts & Museums
A center dedicated to promoting the work of Charles Péguy. Here you can find a great number of documents concerning this famous writer from Orléans.
Located near the Cathedral, the Orléans Fine Arts Museum has one of the best collections in France, including: over 2,000 French paintings, around 700 pieces of art and sculptures from the 11th to 19th Centuries, and masterpieces from Belgium, Holland and Italy. The museum is particularly famous for its paintings and sculptures from the 17th and 18th Centuries; however, there also is a section dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Temporary exhibitions are regularly organized, promoting the work of local, national and international artists.
Founded in 1823, Orléans History and Archeology Museum is primarily dedicated to ancient sculptures. Located in a Renaissance building in the city center, this museum displays Gallo-Roman artifacts from the region, including the prestigious Neuvy-en-Sullias treasures, Medieval statues and regional crafts (antique glass, metal and wooden tools, etc.)
This museum was one of Joan of Arc's houses when she first arrived in Orléans in April 1429. The historical décor has been kept almost identical since the 15th Century, thanks to major reconstruction projects in the 1960s. The museum presents permanent and temporary exhibitions, all dedicated to the enigmatic and historical figure's life.
The Musée des Sciences Naturelles offers nature lovers five floors of exhibitions. You will learn about insects, birds, mammals, the earth sciences, and tropical and Mediterranean vegetation. The wide range of interactive displays makes it fun for children to learn. Guided tours are available as well.
