Shabazz Palaces

Kalamazoo, MI 49007
Shabazz Palaces is an abstract hip-hop project based out of Seattle, Washington. Comprised of percussionist Tendai Maraire, engineer Erik Blood and former Digable Planets emcee, Ishmael Butler, the group breaks free of many of hip-hop's typical molds, creating a moody, psychedelic style that should appeal to fans of alternative versions of the genre. The group's odd tendencies are compounded by eccentric live shows that includes trippy costumes and masks. Blood's production sounds both modern and vintage, pulling not only from trending genres such as dubstep, but also from classic laid-back jazz and soul. Digable Planets' fans should be plenty familiar with Butler's smooth flow already, but new listeners will find that his on-point delivery keeps the more glum, icy aspects of Shabazz Palaces' music firmly grounded in accessible territory.

Soul Asylum is an American alternative rock band that formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1983.

The band originally formed in 1981 under the name Loud Fast Rules, with the original line-up consisting of Dan Murphy, Dave Pirner, Karl Mueller and Pat Morley. The latter was replaced by Grant Young in 1984. The band recorded three albums with Twin/Tone Records and two with A&M Records to little commercial success. However, in 1992, they released the triple-platinum album Grave Dancers Union, featuring their Grammy Award-winning single "Runaway Train". The band played the Bill Clinton inauguration early the next year. They also scored a platinum record with the album Let Your Dim Light Shine three years later. In 1998 they recorded Candy From A Stranger. Mueller was diagnosed with cancer in 2004, causing the band to organize a benefit concert on his behalf. Mueller died a year later. In 2006 they released their latest album, The Silver Lining.

Best known for playing a semi-fictional version of himself in the hit sitcom Seinfeld, Jerry Seinfeld is an American comedian, actor and writer from Massapequa, NY who is often described as an observational comedian. By Seinfeld's fourth season, the show had become the most popular and successful sitcom on American television before ultimately leaving the air in 1998 after a nine year run. After his sitcom went off the air, Seinfeld returned to stand-up comedy, and his process of developing and performing new material at clubs around the world was chronicled in Christian Charles' 2002 documentary, Comedian. Seinfeld has also written a few books, several of which archive many of his past routines.
