The Western Australian Turf Club, established in 1852, operates two of Perth's racecourses, Ascot Racecourse and Belmont Park Racecourse. Ascot operates during the summer months, while Belmont Park provides the venue for winter racing. Both racecourses hold regular mid-week meetings. The main race meetings and carnival days occur on weekends and public holidays. Visitors are welcome to join Saturday and Sunday tennis competitions, a great chance to enjoy afternoon Devonshire Teas and stay for a sunset drink. The club offers numerous social opportunities, including barbecues, club nights and movies under the stars. Tennis competitions run from October to May, but the six grass courts and two hard courts may be hired on any day during daylight hours. Booking is essential.
Take the opportunity to revisit the early era of settlement while driving through the picturesque hills and Bickley Valley. The Cala Munnda Heritage Trail offers both an historic and scenic journey. The 42 kilometers drive starts at the Kalamunda History Village Museum. It passes through the town of Lesmurdie, then meanders through the surrounding timberland and wine country. The trail is sign posted, but a trail booklet and audiotape is available from the History Village.

Opened in 1979, this is the hockey center of Australia. Home to the Australian Institute of Sport Hockey, the stadium is the training ground for Australia's hockey elite. In terms of Western Australian hockey, the Perth Thundersticks (men) and the Waasdiamonds (women) also call the stadium home. The stadium hosts international tournaments, national league games, the top state games and some of the local competition games. The main season runs from April until September, but throughout the summer, regular night games are held.
