»Western Australian Cricket Association Museum

The WACA Museum features exhibits that follow the rich history of cricket and other sports. The museum, located at the WACA Ground, has an extensive collection of memorabilia as well as a number of interesting displays to meander through. The displays include Aboriginal cricket, the Sir Donald Bradman Display, the cap and tie room, players cricket card collections, local cricket club history and the Men's World Cup Display. Guided tours of the ground and museum are available every Tuesday and Thursday. Bookings are essential.

»Holmes à Court Gallery

The Holmes à Court Gallery is a famous contemporary art gallery in Perth which opened its doors to public in February 2000 with its inaugural colonial art exhibit known as Exploration and Transformation. Since then, the gallery has been at the center of various art exhibits of national and international interest and has also incorporated an annual 'Artist in Residence' project. Currently undergoing renovation, this state-of-the-art gallery is scheduled to open its doors again in 2012. Check website for further updates.

»Francis Burt Law Education Centre And Museum

Perth's oldest building, the Old Court House constructed in 1836, houses the Francis Burt Law Education Center Museum. Items on display relate to the history and development of law in Western Australia. A variety of objects dating from 1616, form the collection and some are even available for research purposes. Items include books, journals, photographs, legal regalia, personal effects, embossing presses, furniture, firearms and items of evidence. The main courtroom is as it was during the 1800s.

»Art Gallery of Western Australia

Located just seconds from the Perth central train station, the Western Australian Art Galley houses a mix of indigenous, historical and contemporary works of art. It features a number of permanent and rotating displays and regularly hosts traveling and special exhibitions. The gift shop, located in the foyer of the Gallery, carries a range of art books, reproductions and gift items. Admission is free. Special exhibitions may have an admission fee. Free guided tours are also available.

»Western Australian Museum

Western Australia's largest and most comprehensive museum houses more than two million artifacts and specimens. The museum's permanent exhibitions include the Katta Djinoong display which focuses on Western Australia's Aboriginal heritage, bird, butterfly, marine, mammal and dinosaur galleries. The Old Perth Gaol, also on site, features a number of regularly changing and special exhibits. The museum shop and coffee shop are worth a quick visit. Admission is free!!

The Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) features year-round exhibitions, performing arts programs, workshops, symposiums and artist-in-residence programs. PICA, a non-profit arts organization, promotes and encourages new talent and experimental work. Perth Centre for Photography features new exhibitions by both artists and photographers. The gallery is not well known but the work on display always provides an engaging experience. Catalogs for current exhibitions are available from the office. Exhibit example: Julie Millowick's "Paraphernalia", a journey through the public and private lives of women. Her work interwove text and images by employing the photograph.

»Greenhill Galleries

The Greenhill Gallery offers a sparse and unadorned space to view art. Content to let the works speak for themselves, it appears to be a gamble that pays off. The gallery consists of two levels with wooden floorboards and a subtle low-lit basement level. A range of prominent contemporary artists feature at Greenhill. The work tends to reflect the traditional end of contemporary, but selected exhibitors always shine here. Greenhill also regularly exhibits the work of emerging artists.The gallery welcomes browsing. »Western Australian Medical Museum

Built in 1895, the Western Australian Medical Museum was Perth's first maternity hospital. Now called Harvey House, the old hospital has been transformed into a museum. It contains displays exploring many facets in relation to the history of medical practice including nursing, dentistry, early doctoring and the famous Royal Flying Doctor Service. Exhibits include 100 years of dentistry, a 1930s operating theater and an iron lung in use during a post-war polio epidemic.
