Trotting became popular by the 1920s in Western Australia and nowadays race meetings are held every Friday night. Gloucester Park is home to the West Australian Trotting Association, the Beau Rivage Restaurant and a casino. Race nights are a hub of activity with wining, dining and betting all part of the action. Friday night is not the only time to catch the trots with midweek races and other special events held throughout the year.

»The WACA Ground

Officially opened in 1885, the WACA is the home of cricket in Western Australia. More than a cricket ground, The WACA Ground has also operated as a harness racing venue, an athletics venue, home to Perth's baseball team and as an Australian Football League (AFL) venue. The ground continues to host special sporting events, but is generally used for local and state cricket games. Visit the Western Australian Cricket Association Museum to view the superb collection of sporting memorabilia or take a tour of the ground.

»The Playhouse Theatre

Throughout Western Australia, The Playhouse Theatre in Perth s renowned for the wide range of cultural and theatrical activities. Built in 1956, this 700-seater theater is built superbly. »Gasworks Building

The Gasworks building, managed by the Perth City Council, is located at the heart of the city. The building used to be a old warehouse but was later refurbished and now has the capacity to hold close to 600 people. The venue has played host to the Perth Fashion Festival. Pretty impressive for an old building!

»Perth Town Hall

Perth Town Hall is a Gothic style building, built between 1868 and 1870, and painstakingly constructed from bricks kilned at the nearby Queens Gardens. It is the only convict built town hall in Australia. The main feature of the hall, an imposing clock tower with a peal of three bells, chimes on the quarter hour. Perth City Council administers the hall and tours of the interior can be arranged.
