The ballet goes burlesque! Written by Mark-Brian Sonna, "A Bur-Less-Q Nutcracker" finds the ladies of a local book club in dire need of cash. To that end, the club decides to stage Tchaikovsky's famous ballet as a fundraiser. But thanks to a disastrous piña colada casserole at a pre-show party, the hired cast of ballet dancers falls ill and the ladies are forced to re-cast the show with members of a stranded burlesque troupe that happens to be stuck in town. The ensuing performance by the Velvet Kittens might not feature any nudity, but it does contain a festive string of sexual puns, adult language and bump-and-grind dance numbers. The production is recommended for mature audiences in the mood for a seasonal send-up.
Some of the Lone Star state's top comedians bring their best material as they compete to win the annual "Funniest Comic in Texas" title. A total of 24 contestants, selected by comedy-club owners and management from across the state, will be competing over the course of several different nights in an elimination showdown. Many of the winners have gone on to become nationally known comedians, and you'll get to see comics of all ages ready to take it to that next level.
