Captain Boycott
CycloramaJanuary 29, 2015 7:00 PM

Boston, MA 02116
With striking imagery, masks and giant papier-mâché puppets, the renowned Bread and Puppet Theater tells a powerful tale about the fight against oppression in three chapters. Chapters one and two set the story with a modern retelling of "Antigone" and a history of the horizontalists' economic philosophy. The third chapter deals with occurrences of military and economic oppression. "Captain Boycott" is presented as part of Bread and Puppet's nine-day residency in the spectacular Cyclorama. Sourdough rye will be served and cheap art will be available for purchase after the show. Led by artist Peter Schumann, Bread and Puppet first made its mark in the experimental theater movement of the '60s and '70s in New York, and now makes its way to the stage of the Boston Center for the Arts.

Stage, screen and television actor Campbell Scott, who starred in Ronan Noone's "The Atheist" as well as the latest pair of "The Amazing Spider-Man" films, directs the world premiere of Noone's latest, a drama exploring the Irish immigrant experience, circa 1912. "The Second Girl" of the title is Cathleen, the summer maid who actually appeared as a minor character in Eugene O'Neill's legendary family drama "A Long Day's Journey Into Night". But she and her fellow Irish servants are the main focus of this lyrical, poignant story, as they struggle to find love and meaning in this strange new world. Noone is Huntington Theatre's playwriting fellow, who received an Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award for this work.
