Bars & Cafes
This American pub is famous for its burgers which have half a pound of ground beef, sauteed onions and mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, and melted American and provolone cheeses. Head to Baron's Pub for good food, great ambiance, live music, happy hour and ciders on tap. They also have an outdoor seating area where smoking is allowed.
For a truly European-style beer garden experience, look no further than, you guessed it- The Bier Garden. Enjoy Belgian, German and English beers in a cheerful environment. During good weather, take advantage of the ample outdoor seating while you enjoy refreshing beer and German food.
Originally located in New York City, Blackfinn Restaurant and Saloon manages to channel both an old time New York Saloon and an Irish Pub at the same time. With its mahogany and white tablecloth interior, Blackfinn is a landmark. With a lively late night scene as well, Blackfinn is a great place to go whether you're looking for a low-key lunch or a rowdy late night party.
Bar Norfolk doesn't have a theme, instead it insists it's just a bar where you can party the night away. The bar has moderately priced drinks and loud music. They host various events, including College Night on Wednesdays and Ladies Night on Saturdays where ladies can ride the bull for free.
Most patrons know exactly what to expect from their local Hooters - big TVs to watch the games on, a good selection of greasy bar food and, of course, the Hooters girls themselves, decked out in the distinctive orange outfits. There is a full bar, with all the usual beers on tap, and patrons can indulge in huge salads, hot wings (at varying levels of heat), tasty burgers and sandwiches. Hooters also has regular events and parties; check the website for more details.
Jillian's is a rather unique spot to enjoy some bar food - it is part restaurant, part games room, part arcade. The food is rather unexceptional bar fare, from sliders to burgers, pizzas and sandwiches. Jillian's is used frequently for company team building exercises and it is a great place to come and enjoy the latest arcade games, take part in some Dance Revolution or learn how to play billiards.
Prince Books is an independent bookstore and coffeehouse. The store has a wide selection of books, and if you can't find what you want they'll order it for you. The store especially features local writers and there are several events throughout the year, such as book readings. After you find your perfect book head to the coffee shop for a drink and a pastry.
Hell's Kitchen is as much a concept as it is a restaurant - it is a hip, edgy bar which also serves cuisine that is halfway between restaurant fare and bar food. The prices are decently reasonable - there is a creamy chicken and broccoli alfredo and a hearty sirloin, all for under USD15, as well as a selection of starters, sandwiches and salads for less that USD10. They recently introduced a vegan menu, and there is a selection of daily desserts to choose from. There is live music nightly and the beer selection is above the norm.
Think Irish jigs and sing-a-longs, cheap beer and a no frills crowd and you got Mo & O'Malley's pegged. Although it is located in the heart of the Norfolk singles scene on Granby Street, the crowd in this authentic pub will put you at ease and out of the meat market. On the weekends, regular Irish bands and musicians fill the air with loud, booze-filled music to make the vibe one of debauchery and pure fun. Who knows, you may find love over an over-flowing pint of Guinness or a late-night Irish Stew.
For a taste of authentic Italian fare, visit The Vineyards Trattoria and Pizzeria. Their menu features a range of dishes that will complement their extensive wine collection. Begin your meal with a filling salad or Brushetta made of focaccia bread garnished with red onions, tomatoes, garlic basil and olive oil, rendering it a tangy taste. For your main course try out any of their pastas, which are a delectable blend of herbs, spices and richly mixed with sauces. Select from their list of red or white wines, which are predominantly Italian labels. On Tuesdays couples can enjoy a special romantic night, replete with a tantalizing meal for two and an ambiance that will add to the mood.
A quaint cafe, Crema is located in downtown Norfolk. Great choices in coffee and breakfast specials that include frittata or breakfast sandwiches make it a worthwhile spot to swing by in the morning. Then show back up in the afternoon and feast on dishes like the turkey burger, Itlalian wedding soup, or maybe a grilled cheese sandwich.
Entourage offers delicious cuisine and great cocktails. The dance floor has a disco light for a retro feel, though the rest of the club has contemporary decor. You have to dress to impress to be let into this nightclub.
