Kully Bay Park is a scenic picnic park located close to Lake Illawarra. There is a seating area, picnic huts, a bike track, grass lawn as well as fishing facilities in and around the park, making it a perfect picnic spot for the whole family.
Set amongst 55 hectares of peaceful gardens, this massive Buddhist Temple was opened in 1995. It is the largest such temple in the south of the Equator. The Nan Tien Temple aims to promote religious, cultural and educational exchange between north, south, east and west. Features include the entrance Mountain Gate, a Chinese vegetarian buffet restaurant, a Meditation room and a museum. There is also the Main Shrine, an auditorium and conference facilities. The Temple runs various courses, from chanting and meditation through to language lessons. Live-in courses also available.
Started in 1964, the Wollongong Botanic Garden is a magnificent display of the fauna in Australia and across the globe. One can also hire the gorgeous garden for wedding celebrations as well as the amphitheater for plays and musical events. They also conduct educational tours for children as well as adults interested in plant life.
Wander the trails through bush land and fern gullies with numerous lookouts offering panoramic views over Shoalhaven River Valley, Yarranunga Valley and nearby mountains. Choose either the West or East Rim walks, both beginning at the well-equipped Visitors Center. The Fitzroy Falls, plunging over 80 meters to the valley below, are an easy ten minute stroll from the center, while the walking tracks take two to three hours. The Visitors Center provides a restaurant, gift shop, picnic facilities and information on all the Shoalhaven National Parks.
From the historic Hampden Suspension Bridge as you enter Kangaroo Valley, to the plethora of tearooms, nurseries, craft, antique and gift shops, you feel you are entering another world. Browse among pottery, woodworks and art galleries; relax over organic gourmet lunches and afternoon teas or snack on chips and burgers. Explore wildlife and magnificent mountain scenery on one of the many bush walks and let the tensions of ordinary life fade.
