»Paolo Nutini

March 31, 2015 8:00 PM

The Scottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini is an extremely diverse musician. One minute he's singing a retro be-bop tune, that begs for comparison to early 20th century swing music, and another minute he's belting out smooth reggae lyrics. The shape shifting nature of Nutini can catch some people off guard, but it's what gives the musician credibility and added resolution. He released his first album in 2006 and ever since then Nutini has been one of the more interesting Scot musicians to track.

»Les Miserables

March 31, 2015 7:30 PM

Based on Victor Hugo's novel of the same name, Les Miserables is a musical drama composed by Claude-Michel Schönberg with lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. Set against a backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Miserables tells the story of Jean Valjean, a thief who has just been released after serving 19 years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread. Once he is free, he changes his identity and interacts with several other characters in a complex plot that explores themes of war, love and sacrifice. With no spoken dialogue outside of the musical numbers, the show has achieved immense popularity in the US as well as Europe with songs like "I Dreamed a Dream" and "On My Own," and has won several awards including a Tony for Best Musical.

»Beth Hart

March 31, 2015 7:00 PM

To lump Beth Hart into any one defined genre like folk or soft rock is doing a great disservice to the intensity she brings to her music. Sure, she's rooted in both those styles, as well as blues and classic rock. But Hart possesses an absolutely commanding presence on stage -whether backed by a full band or left to her own devices with just a keyboard and the trembling waver of her voice -that puts her more in the world of Janis Joplin as opposed to Jewel. The tension and vividness of Hart's tales of smoky bars, damaged relationships and her love/hate affair with Los Angeles have kept her a cult favorite since the mid-1990s.
