The Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway Passenger Depot is a historic railroad depot that was built in 1872. Now known as the Deerfield Station, it became popular in 1979, after officials put up signs proclaiming that the station is a 'No Kissing Zone,' as trains were often getting delayed due to lovers taking a long time to bid their farewells. Now a Metra railroad station, the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

The settlement in the area that would later be known as, ‘Glenview’, can be credited to farmers, who came to exploit the rich soil and natural resources available here. Originally named South Northfield, the name, ‘Glenview’ was given by the Chicago & Milwaukee Railroad in 1872, and the village residents retained the name when the village was incorporated in 1899. Today, Glenview is more of a modern town, with various shopping centers and malls scattered across its land. A pleasant place to visit, and located just about 30 minutes from Chicago, Glenview is definitely worthy of a place on your itinerary.

Long Grove is a quiet little hamlet located about 37 miles from the bustling city of Chicago. Though a small village, Long Grove has a rich historical background, starting in the early 1800s, when German settlers immigrated here and founded a small township. Secluded from major towns and cities, this little community flourished uniquely. The history is evident in the numerous buildings and structures around the village, that have their origins in the 1800s. To preserve the village’s beauty, its council has issued building ordinances that restrict the presence of sidewalks, street lights, or curbs, as well as convenience and chain stores. Long Grove is also known for the annual Chocolate Festival that takes place each Spring. See the website to know more.
If you have never flown in or out of here, then you better assume you need at least an extra hour of time then you thought you did. For some reason, it always seems that your plane is at the last terminal, which inevitable takes over a half hour to walk to and from. Billed as the world's busiest airport, there can be no doubt that, in fact, it is. Opened in 1955, the airport quickly became the world's largest transportation hub and the flurry of activity inside certainly reflects this. You can get here easily from the Loop with the CTA's Blue Line, which is often faster (and cheaper) than either a limo or taxi. If you are flying internationally you will have to take the monorail to the international terminal. Otherwise, the Blue Line lets you off right in the domestic terminal, unbeatable for convenience. Although there has been constant talk of adding a third airport to alleviate the crowds and stress of O'Hare, you will still find that things run pretty smoothly, and most airlines are as accommodating as possible when unexpected surprises do occur.
