Dating back to 200 BCE, the Roman Painted House was a beautiful Roman mansion, which was part of a large hotel that was built for travelers who crossed the English Channel. In 270 BCE, it was demolished by the Romans to construct a huge fort in the area. After several excavations, three rooms were found under the debris. The relics found here include stunning wall paintings and an awe-inspiring painted plaster of 400 square feet, which show the architectural genius of the Romans. These colorful panels, fluted columns, and beautiful motifs related to Bacchus incite a feeling of awe and wonder into everyone who sees it. Visit once to explore this treasure.
