»Bell Stage Main Dining Room: Wesla Whitfield & The Mike Greensill Trio

April 26, 2015 7:00 PM

Sunday April 26th, 2015 7:00pm Bell Stage Main Dining Room You Make Me Feel So Young Featuring: WeslaWhitield with the Mike Greensill Trio Wesla Whitfield inhabits that indeterminate zone where jazz and cabaret meet. Trained in classical music and opera, Whitfield has toiled for more than three decades to become one of the most gifted performers breathing life into that exquisite body of Broadway tunes, movie songs and Hit Parade numbers known collectively as the Great American Songbook. In 2006 Wesla and Mike moved to St Helena in Napa Valley but still spends much of their time in New York and San Francisco, working such noted rooms as the Algonquin Oak Room, The Rrazz Room, The Metropolitan Room and Joe's Pub at New York's Public Theater, Wesla has also appeared in concert at NY Town Hall, Avery Fisher and Carnegie Hall. In 1996 Wesla had the honor to perform at the White House for Hillary Clinton. With her deft sense of time and uncanny ability to connect with the emotional truth in a lyric, the jazz world has had no qualms about embracing her as one of its own. Working with pianist/arranger Mike Greensill, the two released their 19th recording 'Message From the Man In The Moon' in December of 2007. Their latest CD, recorded in May of 2011 during their annual run at the Razz Room in San Francisco, is titled "Best Thing For You - Live from the Rrazz Room" and was released in October 2011. Together Whitfield and Greensill conduct scheduled Master Classes at Notre Dame De Namur in Belmont and Napa Colleges in Napa Valley and throughout the country as well as teaching privately. Whitfield and Greensill have garnered numerous national television, radio and written media credits including, All Things Considered, Fresh Air with Teri Gross, People Magazine, CBS Sunday Morning, New York Times Sunday Magazine, DownBeat Magazine profile and a feature in 'O' Magazine. »Cypress String Quartet

April 26, 2015 3:00 PM

Even though classical chamber music is experiencing somewhat of a lull in popularity, the San Francisco based ensemble Cypress String Quartet still performs the baroque style of music like the invention of electric instruments never happened. With two violins, a viola and a cello, this four-piece ensemble explores time honored chamber music with a distinctively modern spin.

Sometimes you need to give your body a rest from what you have been eating regularly, such as meats, especially those that take quite a bit of time to digest and to rid the body of toxins that came in through certain foods eaten.  Over the last eight years I have faced obesity twice and have journaled my progress to freedom.                      Further, in writing several books to help others overcome obesity as well, I have now created online weight loss / nutrition and weight management "events" for those whom are "on-the-go", have limited finances to join gyms and weight loss groups and programs and for those whom simply cannot afford to nor have the time to exercise 1-2 hours per day as well as endure the pounding that "daily" jogging puts on your knees.   My solutions to weight loss, weight management, nurition and getting your health back on track is for any one of any age. Within my books I discuss how I lost 170lbs, beat obesity twice and sculpted an eating, workout and overall nutrition plan that can be done ANYWHERE. »Palo Alto Players' The Addams Family

April 26, 2015 2:00 PM

"Na-na-na" *snap* *snap* "na-na-na" *snap* *snap* -- You can't even say "Addams Family" without breaking into song. So no wonder the demented adventures of this wickedly witty family have inspired a musical comedy. From the writers of the Tony-winning "Jersey Boys", "The Addams Family" tells the story of every father's nightmare: Wednesday Addams is grown-up and in love ... with a "normal" boy. Inviting his family to the Addams Mansion sets the stage for a meet-and-greet gone gothic. Savor the horrific hospitality of Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Grandmama, Lurch and everyone's favorite weirdo, Uncle Fester, in this magnificently macabre show directed by Janie Scott for Palo Alto Players.

»Noises Off

April 26, 2015 2:00 PM

One night, as playwright Michael Frayn watched one of his stage comedies from the wings, he realized he had gotten it all backwards: What was happening behind the scenes was far funnier than what was happening on the stage. So, in move of comedic genius, he flipped everything around and came up with "Noises Off". Declared "the funniest play written in my lifetime" by the chief drama critic of "The New York Times", "Noises Off" pulls back the curtain on the hilarious backstage happenings of a dreadful farce dubbed "Nothing's On". The worse "Nothing's On" gets for its miserable menagerie of actors, the funnier "Noises Off" becomes for the audience, as the slapstick reaches levels of atmospheric delirium. Now the young talents of San Mateo High School Drama present a fresh production of this fantastic farce.
