The Mikado

Santa Ana, CA 92704
Gilbert and Sullivan are masters of comedy and the "The Mikado" stands as one of their most popular and well-crafted operettas. Set in a fictional Japanese town where flirting has been made a capital offense, "The Mikado" tells the story of a wandering minstrel who falls for Yum-Yum, a beautiful young woman who is betrothed to another. In classic Gilbert and Sullivan fashion, complications, merriment and hilarity ensue. An intelligent satire on British society, the foreign setting allowed Gilbert and Sullivan to slyly mask their clever commentary on social restrictions and government stupidities. See this classic musical comedy at the Attic Community Theater in Santa Ana.

An unabashed fan of lo-fi techniques, Los Angeles-based artist Ariel Pink has explored the far reaches of cheap recordings. He released his first album in 2002 and has since managed to become one of the flag bearers of the bedroom lo-fi genre. Though his notoriety might seem small, there is a rabid lot of fans who consider Pink to be a demi-god who can do no wrong when it comes to cranking out sonic compositions. While he certainly strives for a unpolished aesthetic, Pink is actually a remarkably talented multi-instrumentalist, though opts to have his backing band, The Haunted Graffiti, fully realize his well-crafted work.

Medieval Times is an exciting, family-friendly dinner attraction inspired by the 11th century world of knights, jousting and majestic revelry. Guests are served a four-course banquet during which they can cheer for one of six knights as they compete in the joust and other tests of skill. Medieval Times dinner and show features live jousting, swordfights, horsemanship, falconry and a "no utensils" meal so you can feast like a king. A rousing musical score by composer Daniel May sets the tone for the new action-packed show filled with more fighting and more romance. Six knights of the realm will compete in the King's tournament, locked in battle for the honor of the crown. Choose your favorite and root for their victory. The show also features a display from the royal falconer, who performs wonders with his mighty birds of prey, including a live flight of the royal falcon, soaring above the heads of the king's guests. Amid the festivities, a herald from a foreign king arrives, with a special stallion presentation for the king and his guests.
