Located in Saujon, this church was built in the 17th Century on the site of what was formerly a Roman Church. Built under the guidance of architect Jacques Guérinet, the church building has two chapels. The architecture on the building is quite simple and the interior has beautiful stained glass work. A few elements of the old Roman church have also been incorporated into the church's interior. Do pay a visit when in the region.
It is said that this quaint church dates back to the 5th century. L'Eglise Saint Jean-Baptiste, which had a Romanesque decor, was later transformed into an excellent exemplification of Gothic architecture. The church suffered ravages of time during the Hundred Years' War. Years later, only a few remnants of its past grandeur could be preserved and the state continues even today. Visitors from all over come here to appreciate its architectural beauty as well as to spend some time amidst its tranquil ambiance.
