    »Peter Hook & The Light

    October 31, 2014 11:00 PM

A founding member of the legendary UK post punk group Joy Division, Peter Hook is a widely-respected bass player who has recently turned his attention toward a solo career. Hook was born in Salford, England, where he would later team up with Bernard Sumner in the mid-1970s to form the beginnings of Joy Division. Later adding Stephen Morris and the enigmatic Ian Curtis, the band's darkly intense style quickly became an underground sensation in the UK. The group's career would be cut short after only a few short years due to Curtis' suicide, leaving Hook and the rest of Joy Division to form New Order, a hugely successful project that embraced more pop and electronic influences. Throughout the 1980s, Hook explored production work in his free time, working on albums by popular British groups such as the Stone Roses. His current solo project, performed as Peter Hook and the Light, incorporates elements of the rock, pop and electronic influences he's explored over the years, while giving him a chance to act as lead singer for the first time in his storied career.

    November 06, 2014 9:30 PM

The second generation roots reggae artist and poet, Luciano, began recording his spiritual music in 1992. His brand of reggae, culture-centric and reflective of his religious beliefs, kept the "Rasta Renaissance" going in the early 1990s following the death of reggae artist Garnett Silk. His song "Shake It Up Tonight" on his 1993 debut album Moving Up, became the #1 UK reggae hit in the same year, though it was a love song and not his usual Rastafarian-driven lyrics. In 2010, Luciano released United States of Africa, his most political album, which dealt with global events and issues. With 19 studio albums, including his 2011 effort, Rub-A-Dub Market, Luciano is a powerful and widely recognizable figure in reggae music.

    November 06, 2014 11:00 PM

Richie Hawtin is an English techno producer and DJ, who was an influential member of Detroit's second wave of techno artists who flourished in the mid to late 1990s. Born in the UK, Hawtin moved to Windsor, a city in southern Canada, just across the river from Detroit, where his dad held a job as a robotics technician at General Motors. Introduced to early electronic music like Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream, by his father, Hawtin began to delve into the expansive beat-driven music scene in Detroit, even playing DJ sets at the young age of 17. Hawtin released his debut album in 1993 and, though his sound has evolved into a more distinct ambient style, he has continued to release a steady slew of listening material, in addition to playing enrapturing live sets as well.
