Inaugurated in 1954 to celebrate the city's fourth birthday, and designed by famous architect Oscar Niemeyer together with landscape designer Burle Marx, Ibirapuera Park covers an area of almost two million meters and is São Paulo's very own Central Park. Museu Afro Brasil and Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo are found here, as well as the famous obelisk and the Monumento às Bandeiras. There are also sports grounds, a jogging track, a children's playground, a restaurant and a snack bar.
Connecting major open spaces like Parque Ibirapuera, Parque da Bicicletas, Parque do Povo, Parque Clube do Chuvisco and Parque Villa-Lobos, CicloFaixa de Lazer de São Paulo offers tourists an excellent way to explore the city. Beginning at Parque Ibirapuera, cyclists can travel the circuit at their own pace, getting to see city attractions like Liberdade and Praça da República along the way. The cycling paths are open on Sundays and national holidays.
Famed as ECP, the Esporte Clube Pinheiros is one of the best places to go to if you are a sports enthusiast. This sports club offers facilities like a swimming pool, tennis court, baseball court, football court and a stadium among other sports areas. Esporte Clube Pinheiros is famous among players and viewers alike for the exciting matches that take place here. All the areas of this large space are well maintained and offer state-of-the-art facilities.
The Hipódromo de Cidade Jardim is located in the neighborhood of the same name. This racing hippodrome was established in 1941 and features four lanes in a closed loop. Two lanes are used for races, with a few training lanes as well as grass areas. It hosts equestrian events of the Jockey Club of São Paulo that are scheduled on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. With free admission, ample parking, and a bar and restaurant on site, it attracts a large number of visitors. Children can use the playground as well as enjoy a pony ride.
One of the main attractions of upscale Aclimação, this park is frequented mostly by locals. Encompassing 115,000 square meters (1237849.68 square feet), Parque da Aclimação is a popular recreational spot where you will almost always catch a game of football going on. Bird-watchers also flock here to observe the green parakeets that call Parque da Aclimação home. The park also has a lake where one can spot ducks, swans and herons.
A little jungle surrounded by a bustling metropolis, Parque Trianon, also known as Parque Tenente Siqueira Campos, has been in existence since 1892. It showcases native plants and various sculptures. Spend a few hours exploring the winding pathways of this delightful park, situated just across the street from Museu de Arte de São Paulo.
Jardim Botânico is a great place to see the diversity of Brazilian flora which contains more than 340 species of plants. This beautiful park houses a variety of other attractions, including the Museu Botânico, a botanical museum. While exploring this vast green space, you will also find various floral exhibitions, a greenhouse, and the Orquidário, which showcases orchids.
Parque da Independência is more than a neighborhood park and is one of the important landmarks of the city. This vast stretch of greenery is home to various tourist attractions like Monumento à Independência and Casa do Grito. Apart from that, there are well-maintained French gardens that make a lovely sight. Parque da Independência is home to many different species of birds.
Parque Burle Marx is one of the most beautiful parks in Sao Paulo. The park opened its gates in 1995 and is used for sporting or leisure activities. A massive green space, this park was designed by Burle Marx and boasts of sculptures and a variety of exotic plant species belonging to the Atlantic. This is indeed a lovely place to stroll around or enjoy a picnic with family and friends.
Established at the beginning of the 20th Century, São Paulo Golf Club has established itself as one of the best in the country. The club was host to the Brazil São Paulo 500 Years Open that took place in 2000. In addition to providing excellent golfing greens, this golf club also features a restaurant, bar and other recreational facilities.
The Jockey Club of São Paulo is one of the largest venue in the city to see a show, with sprawling dimensions, it appears as if it can contain the entire city. From Saturday to Monday, the horses and jockeys take center stage with the race track. However, the club also is very popular for weddings and private events as well as hosting concerts from some of the most famous names in music. Everything under the sun can be found here as far as entertainment is concerned, other events include, car racing, the ever popular soccer and a place for diplomats and candidates to meet and campaign. Its location is a little outside of the city, but no matter what, any event that you see there is worth the trip.
The area surrounding the beautiful Jardim da Luz, Praça da Luz is a popular tourist spot. Situated just a short walk away from the historic Luz Station, the square is perfect for spending a few quiet hours, maybe reading a book. This tree-lined area is also surrounded by numerous shops, so there's always something to do. Not entirely safe after dark, Praça da Luz is best visited in the daytime.
