    An Evening With George Winston

    Ithaca, NY 14850
Pianist George Winston was born in Michigan and grew up in Miles City, Montana where he was inspired by blues, rock and jazz to learn how to play the organ. After hearing recordings of 1920s and 1930s stride pianists, he switched to acoustic piano in 1971 and focused on learning stride piano and folk piano. Only a year after he made the switch, Winston released his first solo piano album, Ballads and Blues, in 1972. Winston is well known for his charity work, including his 2001 album Remembrance- A Memorial Benefit, which benefited the people affected by the September 11 terrorist attacks, and Gulf Coast Blues & Impressions- A Hurricane Relief Benefit from 2006. With over ten solo albums under his belt, Winston continues to study the art of piano as well as guitar, continuously recording original compositions and covers of his favorite musicians.

Have you ever loved something so much that you couldn't let go? A dying pet that you've come to love, a significant other that's starting to wreak havoc on your soul, or, in this case, a band that ran its dutiful course decades ago. The Grateful Dead was a wonderful sonic phenomenon that helped breathe life into the jam band genre, but after decades spent on the road the band became somewhat of a cliche of itself and after lead guitarist Jerry Garcia died in 1995, the group was done and it disbanded. But a few musicians decided to recreate the Dead's music on a regular basis. This band is called Dark Star Orchestra and it's basically a Grateful Dead cover band that performs tried and true tunes that helped make the Dead a jam band establishment.

    Dopapod
    The HauntNovember 20, 2014

The cross-genre sound of Dopapod is the result of fearless experimentation and a disregard for stylistic rules. With a buffet mix of influences that includes electronic and indie, classic and alternative rock, the four-piece band from Brooklyn first captured its sound in 2009 with its debut album Radar. Critically acclaimed for its experimental finesse, the album set the standard high for Dopapod and the band responded with its 2011 live follow-up I Saw Live Dopapod Live Evil I Was. Though recorded live the record featured spliced and mixed multi-track recordings that demonstrated the bands mastery of both dubstep drops and guitar-powered rock. Dopapod released its second studio album, Drawn Onward, in 2011.
