The Zips represents the athletic programs and
intercollegiate teams of the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio.
As a member of the NCAA's Division I, the university competes in the Mid-American Conference and the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Frequently ranked highly within the conference, Akron's men's soccer team made it to the NCAA's Division I Championship in 2009, ultimately losing to the University of Virginia. Other men's and women's sports supported by the school include football, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, softball and volleyball.
Among the showgirls and deluxe-sized casinos in Las Vegas emerged a punk rock band called Last Call. After releasing its first EP with Mightier Than Sword records, the band split from its first label, signed with its own Broken Arrow Collective and dropped its debut album Dog Years, in 2012.
