A hit when it played Off Broadway, actor/writer David Marshall Grant (NBC's "Smash") explores the family ties that bind too tightly in the comedy-drama "Pen". Set in socially-turbulent 1969, the play revolves around the fraught relationship between college-bound 17-year-old Matt and his mother, whose emotional and physical neediness produce equal amounts of love and guilt, making it tough for him to escape home. His divorced dad seems to have done just that, though he's also pulled back into the family fray. This D.C.-area premiere kicks off Washington Stage Guild's 29th season.
