Bars & Cafes
You do not have to be a rocket scientist to work out your bill in this bar—just count the number of items you have ordered and multiply that by JPY 500. You will know exactly how much you have to pay. As it is so cheap, 500 Bar is very popular with people in their twenties. It even has a bit of a reputation as a "pick-up spot." There is a good selection of drinks, including draft and bottled beers, cocktails and spirits. The food menu may be somewhat limited, but then again, nobody really comes here to eat.
If you have a sweet tooth, you will love Calcio D'angolo. This restaurant serves a fabulous array of homemade cakes, cookies, soft puddings, ice cream and pure fruit juice cocktails that are Italian in concept but original in creation. Prices are reasonable. Try a house-blended espresso with vanilla ice cream or exquisite apple cake with two small scoops of ice cream. The atmosphere is relaxed and the interior spacious, with sofas and armchairs as well as the usual tables.
You do not always have to play billiards in a smoky joint beneath the railway lines; come to this elegant billiard hall and enjoy an evening of "shooting stick" in style. The interior is distinctly high class, with luxurious armchairs and sofas for relaxing between games. The walls are usually decorated with photographs or paintings that are for sale. Buy one, if you find something you appreciate. There are also three iMacs that you can use free of charge to check email or just surf the net.
Ubusuna Café quickly established itself as a must-go-to by Sapporo's chic, young crowd. Most of the main dishes are nothing special, but they serve solid mainstays, like pasta and pizza. The salads and desserts, on the other hand, are certainly worth the trip. You have a choice of salads that include local ingredients, such as sea urchin and squid, as well as peppers and greens from South America and Europe. The salads start are a healthy option. The green tea milk latte is a drink you might want to try just for the experience.
As close to a temple of chocolates that you will ever find, this delightful cafe presents an array of chocolates and other candies that would tempt even the most austere aesthete. The original blends of chocolate are made of the finest ingredients, including seasonal fruits and liqueurs and fresh cream. You can relax in the café and enjoy your favorites with tea, coffee or rich and full-flavored hot chocolate, or you can take them home and share them with family or friends.
