One of Shakespeare's greatest works, "The Tempest" is a magical story about the transformative power of forgiveness and the bond between parent and child. It follows the adventures of Prospero, an exiled duke who lives as the master of an enchanted isle where fantastical creatures, mystery, music and romance abound. A shipwreck delivers Prospero's enemies to the island, and the plot thickens when his beloved daughter falls for the enemy's son. "The Tempest", believed to be the last play Shakespeare wrote alone, is performed by Portland Shakespeare Project. This unforgettable story has inspired all kinds of adaptations, from poetry and paintings, to operas and films like "Forbidden Planet".

    The 39 Steps
Lakewood Center for the ArtsJuly 23, 2014 7:30 PM
    368 South State Street
    Lake Oswego, OR 97034
This ingenious comic stage adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's thriller "The 39 Steps" turns a cast of four into more than 100 zany characters (in 100 minutes) with a mix of Hitchcockian masterpiece, juicy spy novel and a touch of Monty Python. The winner of two Tony and Drama Desk Awards, "The 39 Steps" is a fast-paced and funny whodunit that's brimming with action and romance. Accused of a murder he didn't commit, Richard Hannay flees from the authorities and encounters a string of hair-raising adventures -- as well as an unlikely love connection. Gasp and guffaw as four talented actors re-enact the entire film (including every train chase, plane crash and murder), gleefully portraying the many spies, villains and other intriguing characters that inhabit this action-packed world.
