What started off as a group of friends getting together to jam with bluegrass instruments has now become a sensation in indie alt-country music. Found mostly at venues in and around the San Francisco Bay Area, Poor Man's Whiskey can be seen performing their own works, or if you're lucky, a complete bluegrass reworking of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon appropriately titled Dark Side of the Moonshine.

Formed by 3 members of popular indie rock band The Decemberists, Black Prairie first came to be on a tour where Decemberists guitarist Chris Funk decided to devote more time to his square-necked Dobro guitar. A couple other members became interested too and the trio soon had an old-style string band as a side project. A few years later, the band assumed two more members, donned the name Black Prairie and became a full-fledged band. With a musical style that incorporates old-style folk, indie rock and Americana, the Portland-based band has impressed a variety of audiences.
