Stake your claim to the golden days of summer fun at this fun place that recreates the excitement of the Old West's Gold Rush with attractions tailored to families with young children. An acre of slides, flumes, sprays, showers, floatables, and interactive play features, circled by the Rattlesnake River with a two and a half mile per hour current, are featured at this venue.
An easy walking path leads visitors from the parking lot through wheat and corn fields and an orchard to an 18th-century farm house. The house was typical of a poor Virginia tenant farmer in the 1770s. Volunteers work the farm and do other household chores while keeping in character in dress and speech. Children will especially enjoy the farm animals, which include cattle, turkeys, hogs, chickens, dogs and cats. Throughout the year, special events are held to demonstrate old methods of cheese making, flax processing and other ways of life.
Comprehensive recreation for the whole family can be found at this ice skating rink that offers public skating, competitive figure skating, ice hockey, and learn-to-skate programs. A well stocked pro shop is also on site.
Acclaimed as one of the finest teaching facilities and short game practice areas in Northern Virginia, this beautiful golf complex includes a nine hole, par 27 golf course, a lighted 60 station driving range with target greens and covered, heated tees, a large indoor recreation center, and a miniature golf course. Private and group lessons are available year round.
Clara Barton spent the last years of her long, productive life at this Victorian home within walking distance of Glen Echo Park. Retired as head of the American Red Cross, she lived for nearly another decade in the house. Her creative renovations of the building resulted in a charming and intriguing curiosity. Visitors may view a film of the life of this tireless organizer and explore the home, which is furnished much as she left it. Admission is free.
A parkland style, semiprivate 18 hole, par 71 golf course that has natural, gently rolling terrain and large greens. The length of the course is 6,506 yards and it includes the Nike Golf Learning Center, driving range, putting and pitching greens, and a snack bar.
The Congressional Golf Course features two courses—the par 70 Gold Course and the par 72 Blue Course. The latter was the site of the 1964 and 1997 U.S. Opens, the 1976 PGA and the 1995 Senior Open. Those familiar with Congressional consider it a monster of a course. Its fairways are long and tight, and it is heavily wooded. The most challenging hole is the par 4 17th, familiar to many television viewers. It is 440 yards downhill to a peninsula green.
Located in the main campus of the Marymount University, the Rose Bente Lee Centre is used by the university for various events and functions. This place also houses the basketball and volleyball arena of the university and a 100 seater arena pool. It is more like an activity place and recreational spot for the university students and staff.
A wealth of recreational activities can be explored at this park in Arlington, just a few miles from Washington. Visitors enjoy the scenic walking trail, the outdoor swimming pool open Memorial Day through Labor Day, and the deluxe miniature golf course and batting cages, both open mid-March through October. This beautiful 70-acre park is situated in a residential area and is popular with the locals. Bluemont Park offers areas to bike, jog, hike, picnic and play basketball. There are picnic areas available too. Larger groups should call ahead to reserve the space.Your leashed pet is welcome as well.
