Arts & Museums
The Greene County Historical Museum houses more than 10,000 artifacts relating to Greene County
The Frank L. Melega Art Museum was conceptualized by family friend Norma Ryan who decided to set up a lasting home for the works of Frank. This was how it was born in May 1999 when the residents of Brownville awoke to one of the finest museums dedicated to collecting, preserving and showcasing artworks. Lovers of landscapes, portraits, cities, logos, drawings, still life and Impressionism will have lot to look forward to at this museum which also has a good range of educational events lined up.
Also known as the Nemacolin Castle, this historic landmark is located in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, on the east bank of Monongahela River. The castle was constructed in the Victorian era, when the crenellated tower was considered an engineering genius. It is one of several large buildings of the 1800s that are still standing in the Pennsylvania region. Three generations of the Bowman family lived in the castle after which it was purchased by the National Historic Society. It is now operated as a house museum and is open for public visits.
